Menopause, it's the worst, right?

We say “NO” to that!

Menopause has gotten a bad rap. 

And many of us have fallen victim to the stereotypes.

What do you believe about menopause?

  • Menopause, it’s a part of getting old.
  • Weight gain during menopause is inevitable.
  • Menopause is a transition into a vital stage of life.
  • There’s nothing I can do about hormonal weight gain.
  • The end of our reproductive lives means the end of our productive lives.
  • Dieting won’t curb hormonal weight gain, why even try?
  • There are certain things you can’t do after menopause.
  • Most women don’t know what to expect during the transition.
  • My bones will get brittle as I age.
  • There is little information out there about menopause.
  • It’s time to wind down after you go through menopause.
  • Forgetfulness is “menopause-brain.”
  • You need to grin and bear hot flashes.
  • There are diseases associated with low estrogen.
  • Symptoms can be relieved with lifestyle and medical implementations.
  • The end of estrogen means the end of libido.
  • Sleep interruptions are part of aging.
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy is dangerous.

Some of these are absolutely true, some are absolutely false, and a few are in between.

When we were young girls, we learned about puberty, and what would happen to our bodies. 

  • How life would change for us as we entered this stage of life! 
  • Our teachers and parents diligently prepared us for the change that was about to happen.
  • Remember, "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret?"

We were going to become women! We were going to develop "curves." Boys were going to be more interested in us. Maybe that's when we started wearing make-up. It was a rite of passage! It was exciting!!! It was empowering!

Now that we are grown women, who is teaching us about what will happen to our bodies? 

  • How life will change for us as we enter this stage.
  • We are left on our own to figure it out.
  • When we have no idea of what is happening to our bodies, we try to do the same things we always have, and when they don't work, we believe the untruths.
  • "Are You There God, It's Me, Menopause?"

Are these true?

We are going to become old! We are going to gain weight.  We won’t feel sexy anymore. Maybe we give up wearing make-up. It’s a rite of passage! It’s depressing! Who am I?

I've always been passionate about helping women feel their best so they can do their best. As a Board Certified OB/GYN doctor for 30 years, I have helped women increase energy, reignite their sex drive, clear up hormonal imbalance, and lose hundreds of pounds.

I have written several books, including “Dr. Liz’s Easy Guide to Menopause: 5 Simple Steps to Balancing Your Hormones and Feeling Like Yourself Again” and the International Bestseller “Go for GREAT: Dr. Liz’s Guide to Thrive at Every Age”.

Like many of my patients, I am a Mom of two adult sons. I enjoy hiking and Argentine tango dancing with my husband. 

I like to say that I walk my own talk. To model growing older with grace, agility and power, I celebrated turning 50 a few years ago by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. (I'll share the story at the workshop.)

I am dedicated to people expanding their idea of optimal health beyond medicine to include nutrition, physical activity, and spirit.
