July Superstar- Karen Kremp

It's never too late to start a wellness routine. Learn about Karen's journey and how she turned her wellness around, feeling younger than she ever thought she would at her age! I often ask our superstars questions and create the article around their answers; for this article, you'll read exactly how Karen expressed her experience with our program!

How It started

I joined Sphericality in May of 2018. I knew I had to do something. I was just past menopause, gaining weight, diagnosed with Osteoporosis and Arthritis throughout. I was having to pull myself up the staircase, couldn't get up from the floor, got winded walking more than 5 minutes, and couldn't fit into my clothes.

I was out on the town in Flemington on the evening. This evening, there was a Local Business Awareness night on Main St. There were many local vendors promoting their businesses. Including many exercise studios.

Dorian was on the sidewalk with a good amount of studio furniture to express the feel of Sphericality. We talked, and I immediately felt this is it! I was drawn to the focus on women, attention to the menopausal age group, a variety of classes, and that she would be right with me from initial consultation throughout.

I don't know how they do it, but every new class I took, the instructors sought me out, knew my name, introduced themselves, and kept an eye on me to ease me into the classes.

The Program-The Classes

When asked what my favorite program is, I have to take a pause. Just like the six inter-connected circles on the Sphericality logo, each of the programs compliments another. I've enjoyed each of the different types of exercise classes, from Meditation to Vigorous Cardio Boot camp classes and all the toning, balance, barre, mild cardio, and yoga in between. It is so much fun to experience the different instructor's personalities and energy.

There are options to go into the studio, take the live class virtually from home, or even take a recorded class when you want to squeeze in a class during a busy schedule.

There are also random six-week challenges offered. The focus is nutrition/diet and the other five rings of importance (exercise, stress/sleep, mindset/purpose, education, and community).

Big Changes

So now. How have I changed? Well, I have so much more energy now. I am so much stronger. I can get up off the floor without even using my arms. I bounce up and down the stairs with a load of laundry in my arms and not even have to use the handrail. I've given many of my smaller-sized clothes away. Now I am slowly replenishing my closet with more fashionable clothes, not just anything that would cover my fat. I feel younger! Like I did maybe 8-10 years ago.

I didn't think it was possible. I thought it was my genetics, destined to go steadily downhill, gaining weight every year while becoming more sedate due to aches and pains! Oh, and did I say?! I am off my arthritis medication—no more aches and pains. And my last Dexiscan showed a 15% improvement in my bone density, bringing me out of the Osteoporosis range!

I will never go back. I will keep doing what I am doing as long as I can. I've learned that at any age, one can improve. I read once where people lose about 7% of their muscle mass a year in their senior years. I gained that back and more! I'm not going to lose any muscle percentage anymore if I can help it!

More Than Exercise

Karen has been committed to herself since day one and through 2020. She maintains an exercise schedule of 4-5 days a week, which has played a massive role in physical strength. We know she'll maintain that hard-earned muscle percentage with her commitment. In addition to her exercise, she also participates in other things offered at the studio, including our wellness workshops. She has also emerged in our community, making great friendships with the other ladies at the studio. To help with stress and mindset, she has committed herself to Meditation with Coach Cindy on Monday mornings. It was so important to her that she made sure her work schedule allowed her to continue her participation. Watching Karen make changes physically and mentally has been inspiring to watch; we cannot wait to see her age vibrantly!
